PROJECT OVERVIEW
Purpose: Form and Sound based exploration | Duration: 2 Weeks (2023) | Software: Illustrator, Photoshop
This typography project was divided into two explorative parts, one inspired by a physical object and the other by music. The first drew from the sculptural, organic form of the Yeezy Foam Runners, translating their fluid, ergonomic design into a typographic style that echoed movement and structure.
The second took inspiration from Drake’s song Toosie Slide, interpreting beats, flow, and the song in general into visual form. Together, these studies explored how typography can move beyond letters, becoming a medium of expression shaped by product design and music alike.
PROCESS
The deliverable for Synth Lane the font inspired by Drake’s Toosie Slide, focused on translating the song’s sonic texture into visual rhythm. I identified three key sound elements: the steady beat and two distinct synthesized background layers.
Rather than focusing on the lyrics, the design revolved around the beat’s pulse and the fluidity of the synths, capturing their movement through structured yet smooth letterforms. Each curve, edge, and transition within the typeface was shaped to reflect this cohesive interplay, a visual embodiment of rhythm, pace, and balance that mirrors the song’s calm yet dynamic energy.

PROCESS
The font inspired by the Yeezy Foamrunners was designed to capture the product’s essence of dynamic movement, comfort, and agility. The letterforms take cues from the shoe’s fluid, organic structure, balancing soft, rounded edges with precise, refined cuts that mirror its sculpted design.
The typeface reflects both motion and stillness, much like the Foamrunners themselves, effortlessly blending an ergonomic, natural form with a futuristic aesthetic that feels both grounded and forward-looking.

CONCLUSION
This project explores how sound and form translate into typography. Synth Lane, visualizes rhythm and synthesized beats through cohesive, flowing letterforms. The Foamrunner typeface captures the organic agility and refined movement of Yeezy Foamrunners. Together, they show how type can embody rhythm, motion, and design sensibility beyond words.
