CHARACTER DESIGN
SPARKS
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Purpose: Human Study | Duration: 4 Weeks (2023) | Software: Photoshop, Illustrator
This project focused on creating a character bible based on a local worker, capturing the authenticity and depth of real-life personalities through observation and design.
I chose Muhammad Parvesh, a local welder I met during my search for a subject. The aim was to study and translate his environment, tools, lifestyle, and personality into a cohesive character design that felt both grounded and expressive.
Through close observation and documentation, I explored his physiological, sociological, and psychological aspects, from his physical traits shaped by years of labor, to his daily interactions, habits, and aspirations. These insights guided the development of a detailed character bible that not only represented him visually but also conveyed his story, identity, and the essence of his world.

RESEARCH
This phase focused on activity analysis, studying Parvesh’s work environment, tools, and daily routines to understand the rhythm of his craft.
Observing his interactions with both space and equipment helped capture the authenticity of his movement, posture, and workflow. A few images of this observational process are shown below.

PROCESS
The process began by building silhouettes for both the body and face to establish the overall structure and proportions of the character. From there, I developed multiple variations, exploring form and exaggeration while maintaining a strong resemblance to the real person.
The goal was to strike a balance between realism and stylization, keeping the design grounded but expressive. The process extended into turnarounds and a short animatic, bringing the character to life through movement and personality.
